Range Safety
While Visiting the MSA Range, MSA Range Marshals have absolute and unequivocal say, please adhere and follow their Instructions, they are there for your safety and the safety of your follow shooters.
One can gain access via the turn-off to the Delta Airfield road just after the Koeberg Power Station on the R27. This is the Brakkefontein Road and can also be accessed from the Apollo Bricks side on the R304 Between Morningstar and Atlantis.
Take the turnoff to the right, travel for about 3km up the dirt road, pass the flying club and airfield on the right and turn into the bottom gate of the shooting complex on the left at the top of the rise. Follow this road all the way to the Founders Range and sign in.
Please Note
The SANDF gates are closed on the 4th Saturday of the month if there are 5 Saturdays in a month. On these Saturdays and at any other time that the MSA ranges are open.
Keep to speed limits on dirt roads or you may face a ban from entering and shooting at Western Cape Shooting Union facilities for speeding and/or driving recklessly without due care and attention. This includes when driving through the military range.

MSA History
Milnerton Shooting Association traces its origins to 1970, when the club was founded in Hout Bay as the Thumbuster’s Club for Black Powder. In 1984 — after steady growth and a pattern of SAPS queries on members’ firearm licence applications tied to the old name — the club was renamed the Milnerton Shooting Association. MSA then operated from a range in Table View until 2003, when expanding housing development in Parklands forced a move.
More than fifty years on, MSA is affiliated to the Western Cape Shooting Union (WCSU) and manages the 370-metre Founders Range together with the adjacent 25-metre Handgun Range, both situated alongside the SANDF Shooting Complex near Atlantis. What started as a small black-powder club has grown into one of the most established shooting associations in the Western Cape — and the only dedicated club holding a FAR number recognised by SAPS.
MSA Today
Today MSA is home to more than 470 members and a full calendar spanning handgun, rifle, shotgun, and defensive shooting. The club is affiliated to the Western Cape Shooting Union and runs monthly Club Competitions across two main categories — Rifle and Handgun on alternating months, with Shotgun shot on the same day as the Handgun competition. Events cater for both rimfire and centrefire firearms, and shooters are classified into Gold, Silver, and Bronze tiers so newcomers and experienced members compete on a level field.
Membership opens the door to a friendly, safety-focused community at one of the Western Cape’s most established shooting clubs. All ages are welcome — our oldest active member is 90 — and the range is an ideal setting to sight in rifles ahead of hunting season, sharpen practical skills, or simply enjoy a morning on the bench with fellow shooters.
